movie review- Mao's last dance

Actually when I first heard that we are watching this movie, I was kind of disappointed because I thought that It was just a boring movie. Especially when I heard that it is a movie about person's life, I didn't have any interest in this movie.

Basically, this movie is about the life of Chinese dancer, Li who was born in a poor family in China. He was selected and he went to Beijing to learn ballet. In the ballet academy, he felt tired and wanted to go home, but after the advice of teacher, he practice hard to become a ballet star and be famous. However, During this time, China was Communist country so dance things that are related with military. So, he began to dream about going foreign country and show his skills. At last, he was selected to go to American and meet Liz, who is also a ballerina. They fell in love but the Chinese government doesn't want him to marry with Liz, or live in America. In the end, with people's help, Li live in America and dance what he want.

To be honest, even when I was watching this movie, I didn't thought that ballet could be a touching performance. Rather, I thought that ballet was boring compared to other things such as musicals. However, as I was watching this movie and the story about how Li had became a star, it was really touching. Also, I found myself, concentrating in the movie which seem really amazing for me. As I saw this movie, I found out how ballerina can be wonderful. Even though they are not speaking, by their movement I can feel what they are trying to say.

After this movie, I became curious about the movie so I found about it. I found out that this movie, "Mao's last dancer", was originally made in book. Li has actually wrote about his life, which became famous and made in movie as well. Now that I found out that there is also a book, I wanted to read about it since it was a really good movie in my perspective. Except for the few disappointing parts, I think that movie was really memorable. So I want to give 4 stars out of 5.
